Description
Purpose:
• Bridge fundamental research with public understanding, inspire students, and support professional development.
• Foster collaboration between educators and researchers to share ideas.
Theme:
From Theory to Classroom: Translating Dark Matter and Neutrino Science for the Next Generation
Goals: for both educators and researchers
• Help understand K–12 outreach opportunities and educational needs.
• E&O team access to current science content and scientists.
• Develop relatable ways to explain neutrinos, dark matter, and underground science.
Session: “Explain Your Science to a 5th Grader” Challenge
1. Scientist Volunteers: 3 volunteers.
2. Task: Each theorist gets 2-3 minutes to explain their research to young audience.
3. Feedback: E&O team gives feedback from their experience with young students.
4. Everyone: openly discuss ideas.
Examples:
• What is dark matter?
• Why study neutrinos?
• Why go underground?
