SURF's Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center should be your first stop in downtown Lead! On Friday nights, downtown Spearfish (30 min drive from hotel) hosts free music concerts and fun activities for kids 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm. And there's lots to see and do in Deadwood's historic downtown mainstreet (10 min drive from hotel).
Childcare options:
There are limited options for childcare in the area. Alliance First Step Child Care Center in Deadwood is a state-licensed childcare provider and offers drop-in/temporary care. Calling at least a month in advance is highly recommended and not guaranteed: 605-559-2007. The Boys and Girls Club of Lead-Deadwood is a supportive, accepting environment open to all community youth. It's located behind the Hampton Inn at the Handley Recreation Center. In regard to COVID-19, the health and safety of attendees and the local community is a top priority. The state of South Dakota strongly values personal liberties. SURF follows the Centers for Disease and Prevention Control (CDC) recommendations and encourages all attendees to be tested as appropriate. Masks are not required at this time.
