Program Expectations

The Davis-Bahcall Scholars Program provides a unique and intensive summer experience. Participants are expected to fully engage in all program activities, maintain professionalism, and uphold the highest standards of conduct throughout the program. Scholars should be prepared for a busy schedule that includes travel, extended days, and collaborative work with peers and mentors. This page outlines expectations to help both students and parents understand the commitment required and how to make the most of this exceptional opportunity.

  • The program inspires students’ curiosity and guides them toward STEM careers by clarifying the educational paths and professional opportunities available.

  • The program covers the science, technology, engineering, and math disciplines with an emphasis on physics, similar to the experiments at the multidisciplinary underground research facility, SURF.
    • 15% biology, 15% chemistry, 15% engineering, and 55% physics

  • This four-week program is designed to be immersive and academically rigorous, with a full schedule of tours and educational opportunities. While you will have chances to experience the history and culture of each location, the program’s focus is on learning and discovery rather than leisure travel.

  • To have a great experience during the program, it is highly encouraged to engage with your fellow scholars, chaperones, and people that you meet at each location.

  • Be curious and ask questions. This is expected and everyone is happy to provide answers and insight.

  • Our chaperones have been part of the program for many years and are knowledgeable both about their fields and the program itself. They’re happy to help and dedicated to making your experience safe, enjoyable, and rewarding.
