A decade of DeMMO: Microbes a mile underground at SURF 50m

      Speaker: Magdalena “Maggie” Osburn Ph.D.

Join us for this inaugural Deeper Talk series fascinating talk on the thriving microbial life within the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF). We'll explore how different types of microbes adapt to varying depths and geochemistry, remaining stable over time. Discover how these microbes utilize chemical reactions with water and rocks, fix CO2, and recycle old biomass to survive. And learn about their preference for attaching to iron-bearing minerals and living on rock surfaces deep underground.
